Free Laptops from Ericsson
Have you ever received an email about free laptops from Ericsson? If so, it is better that you disregard the said letter even if it tells you a good offer about receiving a computer, mainly because it is a scam. A lot of people have already been hoaxed by the said chain letter, which tells them that they can get a laptop for free by simply forwarding the email to their contacts. So far, not one person has received a laptop from the said company.
The ‘free laptops from Ericsson’ hoax has been circulating across the internet through emails since 2000, and it continues to be sent and received in people’s emails from time to time. The said email states that Ericsson has developed a new laptop and is giving units away for free to keep up with what rival company Nokia has done. According to Sony Ericsson however, they have never developed a laptop and they are not giving away any, and even though the letter has provided a contact source by the name of anna.swelung@ericsson.com, the company says that the said contact email has never existed. The Ericsson free laptop email has resurfaced during the past few years and has indeed attracted attention, the most recent was in 2009.
It is then important to be aware of this hoax, as this can be a way phishing experts and hackers use in retrieving information from unsuspecting victims. Some mails, when opened, can even contain viruses and malware programs which quickly infiltrate through a user’s computer and open access to internet thieves, which can cause further security problems. There are also instances when you receive a truckload of letters of the same content after reading the email, which can be quite annoying since they fill up your inbox. Thus, if you have indeed received an email about Ericsson distributing free laptops, have it deleted immediately.
