My Free Laptop
Have you ever encountered the My Free Laptop website? It used to be an active website that advertised opportunities on how to get a free laptop, but unfortunately, it turned out to be a big hoax and left a lot of innocent victims waiting for imaginary laptop packages. Similar sites such as this continue to exist across the internet, and this is usually how they work:
“My Free Laptop” and “Free iPod” websites are usually eye-catching web pages with large, blinking fonts that offer free computers and gadgets. They initially tell you that they can receive free stuff by simply signing up, and that alone can be really tempting. They don’t ask for personal information aside from your name and email-address, and once you have confirmed your registration, you will be sent a welcome email from the site, as well as instructions and links on how to avail your free computer package. When you log in to the website’s member page you will see various paid offers involving the website’s real products, which include cookware, hair care tools, cleaning materials and other utility instruments which you do not really need, and you have to pay for these subscription catalogues to earn points that will qualify for a laptop. These catalogues cost somewhere between $50 and $300, and that’s where the hoax comes in.
When you come across these kinds of sites, it is best that you defer your application rather than pursue it, since you will be spending your money on wrong investments and fraudulent programs. These sites only want new members and subscribers to their offers, but they have no intention whatsoever in giving away computers as prizes. Not only will you be disappointed by these schemes, you will receive a truckload of spam in your email coming from these sites, which can be very annoying.
